Before the Challenge

Have each student create a problem with an answer of a specific number (for
example, 12). Be creative. Be prepared to share a few of your class favorites.

Gather a few math jokes to share at the end of the conference if time allows.

Practice good math problem solving that employs strategies and discussion.
Review the sample problems used in past Math Marvels sessions to practice with
your students.

Have students preassigned to small work groups. Make sure each group has
pencil/paper. They may need a clipboard to write on if they will be sitting on the
floor.
