the Great Race
Great Race Rules

1.
   All teams will leave from Jamestown, Virginia. The final destination is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.
2.
   Each team will have a team name. Your team can be divided up in subteams such as a distance team, a weather team, etc.
3.
   Students will be responsible for their itinerary. This includes modes of transportation and supplies.
4.   Due to limited space and weight limits, each team can take up to ten (10) supplies with them on their trip. Don't forget to include the cost of supplies in your log. Choose from the below items:

Food for 4 days
Box of Flares

Water (5 gallons)
Magnetic Compass
Map of U.S.

5.   Each team will budget for one (1) traveler.
6.
   The object of the race is to reach the final destination in the least amount of time, spend the least amount of money, and travel through the most states. Each team must complete all the required activities. Forms can be downloaded and/or used online (login required).

   Route record with longitude, latitude and high points that include distance and time
b.
   Three assignments from the Tic Tac Toe assignment
c.
   Artifact Registry including why you selected them

   Landmark Sheet

   Ledger Sheets - All money spent must be recorded. Prices much be dated and confirmed. Price of gas, railroad tickets, boat rentals, etc. must be researched on the internet and be actual prices. Students must calculate how many gallons of gas they used and document how much gas is a gallon when purchased.

There are four (4) choices of transportation. Each team must use at least three (3) modes of transportation. You may not use airplanes.
   
a.
   Automobiles - Automobiles must be rented.
b.
   Trains - Trains must be real trains. Students will have to look up the train station and schedule on the internet and document the price of their ticket and arrival and departure times.
c.
   Buses - Buses must be real buses. Students will have to look up the bus station and schedule on the internet and document the price of their ticket and arrival and departure times.
d.
   Boats - This may be any kind of boat including ferries. Students must account for the boat rental and any related fees on the accounting sheet.
8.
   When traveling by car, the team may not travel more than 7 hours per day.
9.
   Teachers are responsible for verifying all travel logs.
